Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSKUS)
Fort Bend Rheumatology Associates
MSK Ultrasound
MSK Ultrasound uses high-resolution sound waves to create real-time images of the musculoskeletal system. Unlike traditional imaging (such as MRI or X-ray), MSKUS allows our providers to evaluate structures while the joint or limb is in motion, offering a dynamic and more precise assessment.
Is MSKUS Right for You?
Your provider may recommend MSK Ultrasound if you’re experience:
- Persistent joint pain or swelling
- Limited mobility
- Suspected tendon or ligament injury
- Soft tissue discomfort
- Signs of inflammatory arthritis
If clinically indicated, your provider will make MSKUS as part of your personalized diagnostic workup.
Why MSKUS Matters
Rheumatologic conditions often involve subtle inflammation or soft-tissue changes that may not appear on standard imaging. MSKUS helps our physicians:
- Detect early arthritis and joint inflammation
- Identify tendonitis, tendon tears, and overuse injuries
- Visualize synovitis, bursitis, and fluid accumulation
- Access nerve entrapment or soft-tissue abnormalities
- Monitor treatment response and disease progression
This technology improves diagnostic accuracy and allows for faster, more targeted treatment plans.
What To Expect
Our skilled sonographer travels to both our Sugar Land and Lake Jackson clinics, providing convenient access for all patients.
During the scan:
- The exam is quick, comfortable, and painless
- No radiation or special preparation is required
- You may be asked to move the joint, helping us visualize the issue dynamically
- Images are reviewed directly by your rheumatologist
